Search & people-search sites

  • Searching your full name (in quotes) returns your home address, phone number, or other direct contact details on the first page.
  • You appear on at least one people-search or background-check site (e.g. Spokeo, BeenVerified, Whitepages, TruePeopleSearch).
  • You have never searched your own name to see what is publicly visible about you.

Social media

  • At least one of your social media profiles is fully public — anyone can view posts without following or friending you.
  • Your friends/followers list is visible to anyone, not just people you are connected to.
  • You have an old or dormant social profile you no longer check or manage.

Passwords & breaches

  • You have not checked any of your passwords against a known-breach database in the past year.
  • You reuse at least one password across more than one account.
  • Two-factor authentication is off for your primary email account.

Photos & metadata

  • You have sent a photo directly (email, messaging app, cloud link) without checking whether it carried GPS location data.
  • A profile photo you use has never been reverse-image-searched to see where else it appears online.
  • You regularly post photos that show identifiable locations — home, workplace, school — in the background or caption.

Email hygiene

  • One email address is used to sign up for most of your accounts.
  • You do not use a separate alias/address for newsletters, one-off signups, or shopping sites.
  • You have never checked your email address against Have I Been Pwned.

Frequently asked questions

How is the score calculated?

Each of the 15 questions is worth an equal share of 100 points. Answering "Yes" to a question adds its points, because every question is phrased so that "Yes" means more exposed. The total is a simple percentage of how many exposure indicators you answered yes to — nothing more sophisticated than that.

What does the exposure band actually mean?

It is a qualitative label — Low, Moderate, High or Severe — based only on your own answers. It is not a comparison against any dataset of other people's scores; we have no such data and would not want to fabricate it. Treat it as a prompt for which categories to work on, not a ranking against anyone else.

Are my answers sent anywhere?

No. The quiz runs entirely in your browser and saves your answers only to this browser's local storage, so your progress persists between visits on this device. Nothing is sent to a server, and the "copy my result" button uses your browser's clipboard directly.

Can I retake it or clear my answers?

Yes — the "Reset quiz" button clears your saved answers from this browser immediately, and you can retake it at any time as you work through the fix-it links.

This is a quick self-assessment, not a full audit. For a more thorough pass, work through the how findable are you? checklist item by item.
