It indexes documents such as PDF, Word and HTML files alongside structured data such as CSV, XLS and SQL, and can cross-reference mentions of people and companies against watchlists. It is built with investigative reporting as a primary use case. Its README says the core team's maintenance of this open-source version was to end after December 2025, with development moving to a rewritten product, Aleph Pro.
