Infrastructure & Network Reconnaissance
Shodan
Search engine for internet-connected devices, servers, and IoT.
Shodan is a search engine that indexes internet-connected devices, servers, and IoT hardware to map their exposed services and ports. It allows users to query this data to identify publicly accessible infrastructure. Security researchers and analysts typically use it for reconnaissance to assess network exposure and discover misconfigured systems.
Dual-use tool. This is capable of legitimate research (journalism, security, due diligence) and of harassment or stalking. Listing it here is not an endorsement of either use.
Privacy note. Indexes devices exposed to the open internet — including ones an owner did not realise were reachable.
